Fortnight Experiences !!
It's been so long that I have been planning to write a blog on my new academic initiative ie; to join for Bachelor's in Education in one of the reputed colleges at Trivandrum , Mar Theophilus Teacher's Training College . It's been 15 days that I have enrolled for the course. Today in the 15 th day I planned for writing a blog summarising all the striking events and experiences at a glance.
The very first day itself was such a soothing experience to see one of my friends in the class which gave me even more strength to step in to the classroom. Our class tutor is Dr. Bindu ma'am who was the first faculty we met in our Social Science Optional Studio . Ma'am gave us a brief explanation about the history of Mar Ivanious Vidya Nagar . Later we had a introduction session as the first step is to icebreak among the optional mates itself . All the students were so cooperative that I felt so relieved to talk to everybody , may be because of my past bitter experience in my pg classes. We all together created a rapport with eachother in day 1 itself. There were almost 7 of us and the rest were still getting admitted each day .
From day 1 till day 15 we had many experiences which really moulded us a little bit on how to cope up with an entirely new atmosphere . Following days , we had Dr. Gibi Geevarughese ma'am to teach us psychology , Dr. Maya ma'am for philosophy , Dr Joju John sir for Technology , Dr George Thomas for physical education and Ancy A S ma'am to cover another paper . When introducing every teacher with their subjects , there may be a common notion that they were meant to teach the assigned subjects . But NO ! Psychology Philosophy and Technology classes were much beyond that , "How to be an effective teacher " is the core question which is being addressed each and every day by every faculty of Mar Theophilus Training College.
Icebreaking sessions of Gibi ma'am , a day with an ex student ,a sister ; were she shared her experiences in the college and an old age home were all very much effective . I should also give a special mention to Dr Maya teacher's classes , Each and every day is left with something or the other for each one of us to think . Neutrality is something that I found very interesting in her classes . I always adore her and look forward to handle classes as she does each day .
Joju sir's classes are those which need to be mentioned as ' classes of positivity' or classes for positivity' . Such an eminent personalities with such a good voice modulation and narrative skill I what sir is blessed with . Another factor I that he can very well convey the message and emotion to the audience which is very rare for a resource person , to effectively handle the minds of the students.
Dr K Y Benedict sir , though he's our principal , sir took the effort to take 2 classes for us , where he gave an overall view about how to be a good teacher as well as how to be a good student teacher in a nutshell. He also gave activities , which made me think of my lower primary classes , where I used to draw pictures out of numbers, alphabets and what not . But then it was all easy but now it took me hours to think of a single picture out of a single number . Sadly I found that the ' child ' in me I stuck in between all the chaos of life .
On 18 th of December marks another important event for our college . It's the day for NAAC accreditation and all tge faculties are behind that . As part of this initiative we also had a planting session , where each one of us planted a sapling in our college compound .
Another striking day was an orientation session by an external faculty Dr. Hari G V sir . Such an effective class it was ! As the resource person was both effective and efficient . It was the day when I learned how to make a class lively . I was so amazed that for not even a second any one of the students over there got distracted!!!
With so many sessions and orientations , our orientation classes came to an end with the spot admissions . By then all the seats got filled for B.ed course for the academic year 2021- 2023 . Then started our regular classes with all the 5 papers assigned by the University for the course . In between that , all the students , on the basis of their optional subjects started practicing for talent hunt , college assembly, class association and what not !
In short all the classes , the college itself is so lively and actively taking part in each day of our curriculum. Waiting eagerly to experience what the college is offering us for the coming days !! Hoping for the best...!!!
